Hardwood Flooring Options

My most current project is to pick the style, colours, curtains & flooring for a client that flips houses.
When I begin a project like this - I want my clients to be informed on all options, therefore...

When choosing Hardwood flooring - realize it must stand the test of time.
That being said, The latest trend in flooring are greys & whites...
 

This gives a very light and airy feel of a cottage or holiday place.
 
Dark floors are very striking !!! ( get that swiffer out )

While both, in my opinion, are totally Absolutely Gorgeous !!!

The one that will stand the test of time would be medium colour ...

It can accommodate almost any decorating style and always look great.
The size of the planks are also a feature. The homes I visit, built during the 60's & 70's,  have a narrow planks - under 2". Today standard, ready made, planks are 3 - 4 1/2".
You could also special order extra large planks that could run to 12" in width. Great for that old farm house look.
Depending on what you are looking for and the specific flavour of your decorating taste, there is something for everyone !!!

Tips from the Girls !!!

Thae best ribs ever are cooked in a slow cooker with coke & chili sauce ! She is going to send me the recipe and I will post it.

Dawn says...
She uses toothpaste to clean her jewelry.

Judy says...
use an electric tooth brush with an old head to clean places around a drain.

Dawn says...
She uses elastic bands on a paint can when painting. She puts the band from top to bottom and when she pulls her loaded brush from the can she wipes it on the band instead of on the side of the can.

Cut up lemons deter cats from doing their duties.
Denture tablets remove stains in cups.

"Reflecting Pool" ...Now Breath Ahhhhh!!!

This is the most beautiful colour (In my opinion) I have ever used !!!!

It works with so many elements - it is a greyish-greenish-blue - positively the most serene colour I have ever known !!!

It is by CIL 10GG 62/026
Many companies make a Reflecting Pool but not like this one. Be sure you have the correct one.

So when Lorraine told me she wanted a change to a subtle calm colour, I knew exactly what to show her..... Reflecting Pool !!!

It worked with all of her flooring, furnishings and adjacent rooms.

All the walls are "Silky White" UL170-12  by Behr The wainscoting is My beautiful "Reflecting Pool" and over the fireplace is "Verdigris" by Behr, a darker version of "Reflecting Pool".

It actually makes the room ceilings feel higher by accentuating the fireplace !

This is Reflecting Pool on the wainscoting. I know it looks blue in the pic but please get a sample & trust me - it's Gorgeous !!!

December "Jill of all Trades" was all about trim !!!
Baseboards, Crown moulding, Medallions and Wainscoting.

New Life for an old Light ...

A little project the class did was to give an old light a new life !!!
We learned to rewire an old light. Then we painted the base and wallpapered the shade.

The Girls are reaching into the base to unscrew the old wiring.

This is my old lamp. Cute eh ?

I spray painted the base to use a metallic oil rubbed bronze look.

Love my blues !!! Even in wallpaper.

A Pre-christmas update !!!!

This homeowner wanted and updated hallway & powder room. Although she was happy with what she was living with, she knew it had its day and was time for a change.

I listened to what she was looking for and came up with some ideas that she loved.

Maintaining a traditional look I was able to update the hallways & powder room in colours that suited her decor in the joining rooms.
I found some wallpaper that made the powder room fresh & new.

The Homeowner wanted some depth of colour, in the hall, not just paint on the walls so in the lower hallway I did a faux finish that resembled old world stone.

I changed all the baseboards to a new profile and 4 1/4" width. The old ones were the same colour as the walls and 2" wide.

The baseboard paint colour is Silky White by Behr, not yellow or grey but just a crisp, clean and soft white.

The colours I used are...

Celery Powder UL-190-8 Behr
Oregano Spice UL200-19 Behr
Silky White UL170-12 Behr
Nile Sand UL170-19 Behr
Hush AF-95 Benjamin Moore
Frappe AF-85 Benjamin Moore
