Why do I Teach....

At  Mohawk College,  I teach a women's program called - Home Reno For Women - (men are more than welcome). Where one will learn the basics of home improvement.
Everything from Installing a new toilet to refinishing your kitchen cabinets, how to work with power tools to tiling a backsplash, decorating, painting and so much more !

These classes give one the foundation to move forward on the challenges of owing a home.

Here are what some of my students have said ...

Pamela, Since I took a couple of your courses I have bought and used a few power tools. I have put in quarter round on a baseboard, in an area that was never completed years ago.
I replaced the coiled aluminum ducting in the back of the dryer.
I attached the downspouts with the proper selection of screws.
I feel totally comfortable going to Home Depot, or Home Hardware and buying the right parts and tools for the job and getting it done.
I acquired the confidence to go ahead and do it: I believe that you gave me the confidence to do these kinds of jobs.  I am also better able to assess when I need a professional to do the job, or just ask questions.

I just completed 4 sets of courses led by Pamela Stiles - hand and power Tools, basic maintenance, plumbing and kitchens.  I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that I was able to participate in the sessions!  Infact, based on what I learned in those classes, last weekend I helped in a home renovation by replacing a toilet and bathroom vanity and faucets, installed shut off valves, removed and replaced a kitchen counter, sink and faucet, tiled a backsplash and installed kitchen cabinets.  I had never done anything like this before!  I have already registered for the electrical course in January.

Thank you so much for offering courses like these - they are so empowering!!  Pamela is just such a fantastic teacher - her enthusiasm is contagious and love the hands on method that she uses.  We went from people that were afraid to touch a hand tool that are purchasing their own now.

Regards,
Cheryl

“Pamela is amazing, approachable and goes out of her way to give you her full attention. She has taught me to mud drywall and helped me pick colours for my kitchen. I am so happy for her being there because I was so flustered, I didn’t know up from down. She helped me with the first step and followed it through step by step. She said I could call her any time....PAMELA IS TRULY AN ASSET !
Pamela also welcomed my grandson to the children workshop that I didn't know about . He was so thrilled and loves making and building things with grandma. “      Thanks Susan
